111 8th Avenue IT and Data Center Building Sold To Google

Google has bought 111 Eight Avenue in Manhattan, one of the world’s best telecommunication buildings and data center. The news was reported by The Wall Street Journal. The search engine paid $1.9 billion, according to WSJ.

111 8th Avenue is one of the premier “carrier hotels” and data center service buildings in New York. It houses data center operations for Digital Realty Trust, Internap, Equinix, Telx and many other data center service providers. Google has 500,000 square feet of office space in the 2.9 million square foot building.

The facility occupies an entire city block between 15th Street & 16th Street from 8th to 9th Avenues.

Google has fast growing New York sales and engineering operations and after the purchase of the building they will be hosted at 111 8th Avenue. Approximately  1/4 of the building operates as data center and telecom space. Among tenants are Deutsche Bank, Barnes & Noble,  Armani, Nike and Lifetime Networks.
